Plaquette in bronze, 89 x 71mm, by Oscar De Clerck, two Europeans wearing a colonial outfit sitting below a baobab, above them, the Congolese star and a cross, rev. inscriptions : LA CROIX VERTE COLONIALE DE BELGIQUE décernée à "Monsieur René COTY, PRÉSIDENT de la RÉPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE 1954" (Vancraenbroeck 59).
La Croix verte coloniale de Belgique was created in Paris in 1888, and its intention was to help soldiers and civilians repatriated from Africa. After the independence, it became the Croix verte africaine de Belgique and helped the Africans. This plaquette was awarded to the French President René Coty as an acknowledgement of his help with the French Paras in Stanleyville.
