Portrait of The Blessed John van Ruysbroeck, 1898
Oil on canvas. Signed and dated at lower right. Neogothic carved giltwood frame.
Note: John van Ruysbroeck was a 14th century monk who left many works and who represented the Rhine region mysticism. He was rediscovered in the late 19th century thanks to Maurice Maeterlinck and Joris Karl Huysmans. He was beatified in 1908.
