Still life of a stag
Oil on panel signed 'Ph. Rousseau' at lower left, bearing the red wax seal 'Philippe Rousseau' on the back. Philippe Rousseau was a student of Antoine-Jean Gros and of Jean-Victor Bertin at the École des beaux-arts de Paris. He began as a landscapist, then moved to still lifes and animal subjects. This little panel is undoubtedly a study. Unframed.
