Siege of Antwerp (1814), Napoleon,
10 Centimes, bronze, 25.27g, 36mm, 1814, Arsenal mint, N, signature on ribbon JEAN LOUIS GAGNEPAIN, dot after 1814, rev. narrow 10, dot (lozenge) after CENT, E in OBSIDIONNALE above T in CENT, lozenge pattern on edge, coin alignment at 9 o'clock (Colaert 19; F.130B ; Gad.192a ; Vanhoudt 905),
exceedingly rare, has probably been cleaned, remains of original colour and toned in legend, small spot of verdigris on reverse, edge flaw below date and drill on edge at 9 o'clock, a few scratches and knocks, very fine, better on reverse.
PROVENANCE: Scherer, Paris, October 1971. According to Gadoury (2015) p.88 and Colaert p.79, there is only one recorded example of this variety in the Vleeshuis museum in Antwerp. Colaert writes that the horizontal lozenge pattern on the edge would make it a 'prestige' coin.
