Jesus among the doctors
Oil on oak panel. The painting represents the incident of Jesus among the doctors, recounted in the Gospel of Luke (2:41-52), one of the seven sorrows of Mary, mother of Jesus. Late 16th century. Other versions are conserved at the Louvre Museum (Alexandre Du Sommerard collection, formerly at the Cluny Museum), the Philadelphia Museum of Art (John G. Johnson collection), the Großschönau museum (Saxony), at the Fürstliche Rentkammer de Braunfels, in the Weinzheimer de Settignano collection, and formerly in the John Pierpont Morgan collection (painting sold by Christie's in 1974), and in private collections in Valencia, Spain, and in Enschede (the Van Heek collection). In a wood frame. Left side restored, on poplar panel.
