Georges Morren (1868-1941)

Girl's head; Oil on canvas. Signed and dated 1904 at upper right. Confirmed on the back of the canvas. Biographical note: A student of Emile Claus and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, Morren was one of the leaders of Post-Impressionism in Belgium. His work is often compared to Renoir's, well-illustrated by this work's pink chromatic palette, flamboyant touch, and dreamy quality. This work was painted in 1904, the same year the artist founded the "Vie et lumière" circle. Later, the artist hosted the "Libre esthétique" circle. Often loaned to museums, the girl's head is one of the artist's iconic works.
Private Belgian collection Rops de Namur Museum (9/04/2000 > 18/06/2000) - Musée des beaux arts d'Ostende (8/07/2000 > 31/08/2000)
30.3 x 30.3 cm - Bibliography: In T.Calabrese, George Morren, 2000. [We thank Mister Tony Calabrese for the information he communicated]
