Maximilien Luce (1858-1941)
Landscape Gouache on paper, signed and dated 'Luce - 07' at lower right. Maximilien Luce was born in Paris to a milieu of artisans. An engraver, he began his career as a painter in 1880. In 1887, Camille Pissarro, who shared his anarchist views, introduced him to the neo-impressionist group and Luce adopted their technique of division of tones. Under glass and matted in a painted giltwood frame. Some lifting of the paint at lower right. 30 x 39 cm-
