Large Butsudan altar Lacquered wood, with curved feet and lotus-patterned copper hinges. The centre of the casement is adorned with a chrysanthemum. It features two panels lacquered in nashiji on the inside, which open to reveal two grates imitating the fusuma, adorned with four hira-makye lacquered panels, which open onto a temple revealing an Amida Buddha and two Shinto divinities. Many red-lacquered hinges depicting chrysanthemums and sculptures of lotuses, cherry trees and birds in high relief. The base of the altar includes a small pull-out offering tray, two drawers, two sliding doors, and two panels. Japan, Meiji. 202.5 x 65.7 x 51.4 cm-
