The Breguet Empire watches of the 1960s were fitted with Peseux calibres, marking a period of transition for the maison. Following the upheavals of the post-war era, Breguet gradually re-established its watchmaking identity by relying on tried-and-tested Swiss movements.
The Peseux calibres, particularly the mechanical hand-wound models, were then fitted to many creations in the Empire collection. These movements provided a solid technical foundation, enabling Breguet to offer elegant wristwatches in keeping with the brand’s spirit, whilst keeping production costs under control.
The Empire aesthetic of this period favoured gold cases, dials often guilloché in the Breguet tradition, and characteristic “Breguet” hands in blued steel. These pieces bear witness to an era when the house sought to perpetuate its heritage whilst adapting to contemporary industrial realities.
