Grand Cross, in gold and enamel, for military service, 110 x 74 mm, gross weight 115.4 g, 4 hallmarks on the plate: bust of George IV facing right, U, Crown, 18 (erased) and 2 hallmarks within the crown: TD HD, 18.
Gold Maltese Cross with a rampant lion in each quarter of the cross, surmounted by two crossed swords and a crown; the centre depicts the white Hanoverian horse on a red background surrounded by a circle of blue enamel with the inscription NEC ASPERA TERRENT; reverse: laurel wreath with a cipher in the centre on a red background surrounded by MDCCCXV and crowned (Barac 42; Medal Yearbook 5; OEK 702; Werlich fig.487).
The Royal Order of the Guelphs (Königlicher Guelphenorder in German) or Hanoverian Order of the Guelphs was established on 28 April 1815 by King George IV, then Prince Regent. The name of the order refers to the House of Welf, to which the kings of Hanover belonged.
No sash; light loss of enamel in the laurel wreath; scratch on the horse, about extremely fine.
