Box-shaped bronze medal, by Porter, 75mm, 1815, bust of Wellington facing left, reverse: Victory seated under a tree writing on a tablet. The box, produced by Edward Orme, contains 13 miniatures measuring 65mm, depicting 12 battles of the Peninsular War: the Battle of Salamanca, the crossing of the Douro, the Battle of Toulouse, the Battle of Talavera, the Battle of San Sebastián, the Battle of Busaco, the Battle of Pamplona, the capture of Ciudad Rodrigo, the Battle of Vittoria, the capture of Badajoz, the Battle of Vimiero, the Battle of Albuera and the Battle of Waterloo. (Eimer 1074). In its round red leather case with the inscription ‘RECORD OF BRITISH MILITARY VALOUR’ on the lid.
Rare; the case shows wear; the medal has knocks, hairlines and traces of verdigris but is extremely fine; the miniatures are no longer attached to one another and some have slight tears.
