EARLY 19TH-CENTURY FRENCH WORK
Rectangular desk, Restoration period
in mahogany veneer, with a gilt bronze ingot holder and a leather-covered top featuring a gilt stamped decoration of a Greek frieze. The left-hand side contains a two-tiered safe (in working order, with its key), three apron drawers and a door opening onto a compartment on the right. Marked by Pierre-Antoine Bellangé (1757–1827), who became a master craftsman in 1788.
Note: Pierre-Antoine BELLANGE was notably a supplier to the Crown during the Empire and the Restoration, and designed the furniture for the Blue Room at the White House in Washington.
