Wear to the patina, damage to the left front leg, the right rear leg detached from the base
and restorations to the base.
On a cherry red Italian marble base H. 4.2 cm

The famous Furietti Centaurs, ancient marbles discovered during excavations of the Villa Adriana
in 1736 by Giuseppe Alessandro Furietti, were kept in his private collection at the Palazzo di
Montecitorio. They were then acquired by Pope Clement XIII, who installed them in the Capitoline Museum
. The finest examples of this model were cast by Righetti and Zoffoli and were
highly prized by 18th-century collectors. Other editions were produced throughout the
19th century.
