Medal, silver, by J. Wiener, (after 1867), 51mm, 40.25g, view of building, rev. inscriptions in 10 lines.
Built in 1867 to designs by architects Antoine Trappeniers and Henri Beyaert, the Cité Fontainas served as a residence for retired teachers. It was named after André Napoléon Fontainas, Mayor of Brussels (1860-1863).
PROVENANCE: Huyge Collection.
Rare, toned, hairlines, knocks, extremely fine.
