Large Louis XVI coffee pot, 1784
in silver and gilt metal on a tripod base with ram's feet, wooden handle carved with frieze and garlands, body decorated with garlands of flowers and a satyr's head, pouring spout with chimera head, lid topped with acorns. Hallmarks Master Silversmith., date and town.
NOTE: Johannes Cornelis Hendrickx is considered to be one of the most talented silversmiths of Mechelen in the 18TH CENTURY. His earliest known work, made in 1760, is in the Mechelen Museum. A soup tureen commissioned by Pierre de Meester in 1782 and purchased by the King Baudouin Foundation in 2011 is currently housed at the DIVA in Antwerp.
