Vulcan forging Cupid's wings, circa 1573
SOUTHERN GERMAN SCHOOL, 16TH CENTURY, ATTRIBUTED TO THE MONOGRAMIST AZ.
Vulcan forging Cupid's wings, circa 1573
lead medallion depicting the forges of Vulcan, after an engraving by Cornelis BOS (c. 1506/10-c. 1555) itself after a work by Martin VAN HEEMSKERCK (1498 - 1574)
Note: these lead medallions, sometimes gilded, are typical of the work produced in Nüremberg and Augsburg in the LATE 16TH CENTURY, of which Jonas Silber (act. 1560-1590) was one of the leading exponents.
The Musée de la Renaissance, Château d'Ecouen has a similar example.
