Vase with the portrait of William 1st of Prussia

Vase with a portrait of Wilhelm 1st of Prussia
Exceptional midnight blue and gold enamelled porcelain vase on pedestal, flanked on either side of the neck by two chimeras in high relief and decorated with friezes of oak leaves on the neck and foot. Original stepped porcelain base. The vase and base bear the marks of the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (Royal Manufactory of Berlin).
Provenance: Presented by the King of Prussia and future Emperor of Germany William I to the Countess C.Y. on the occasion of the marriage of the Count and Countess of Flanders in Berlin. Kept by his descendants to this day.
History: On 25 April 1867, Prince Philippe married Princess Marie of Hohenzollern in the Catholic church of St Hedwig in Berlin. The marriage was arranged by Queen Victoria of England. Prince Philip and Princess Marie, Count and Countess of Flanders, are the ancestors of three royal families: Belgium, Italy and Luxembourg.
Note: The Berlin Stadtmuseum holds a vase with a similar decoration under inventory number KGK 68/19.
