Extremely rare suite of four portraits of Guadeloupean women, 3 March 1769
four pastels on blue paper, framed. Each portrait is titled, located "A la Guadeloupe" and dated on the cardboard on the back of the frame.
Attached is a letter from the Secretary General of the Musées Nationaux and the Ecole du Louvre dated 8 August 1928 concerning these works. This letter explains that the Louvre curators know of no Favart who worked in Guadeloupe in the 18th century
Note: the Musée Schoelcher in Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe) holds a pastel similar to our series, dated 1770. It shows the same four models in a single work.
