Large ceremonial console table
18TH CENTURY ITALIAN WORK, PROBABLY ROMAN
Important console table
in richly carved and gilded wood decorated with acanthus leaves, stylised flowers and rocaille, the four legs joined by a richly carved brace. The curved Sienna yellow marble veneered top is edged with a sea green marble veneered frieze.
Note: this type of rich decoration is reminiscent of the Roman Baroque furniture seen from the second half of the 17TH CENTURY in decorations such as that in the Galleria Spada or Palazzo Ruspoli.
