Polished golden bronze sculpture. Marble stand. Signed H. Puvrez and dated '28.
Henri Puvrez was one of the greatest Belgian sculptors of his period, along with Oscar Jespers and Jozef Cantré. He was the student of Isidore De Rudder. Beginning in 1925, his work was influenced by the art déco movement and African art, as seen in this piece. His works appear in the collections of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, the Lanchelevici Museum, and the Middelheim Museum in Antwerp.
