Oil on canvas bearing two labels from the Georges Giroux Gallery on the back, as well as a label from the 'Centennale de l'Art Belge' [Centennial of Belgian Art] exhibition at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in 1930. Three labels on the back of the frame: 'Exposition d'Art Belge au Salon d'Automne [Belgian Art Exhibition at the Autumn Fair] - Paris - October, 1907' , 'Cercle Royal Artistique et Littéraire de Bruxelles 1947' [Royal Artistic and Literary Circle of Brussels 1947], and 'Cercle Royal Artistique et Littéraire de Bruxelles 1959. Trente ans de peinture belge' [Royal Artistic and Literary Circle of Brussels 1959. Thirty years of Belgian painting]. After traveling between Tournai, Paris and Brussels as a youth, in search of his calling, Boulenger learned drawing in Paris, and, influenced by the Barbizon school, completed his training in Brussels. A strong character, he challenged the accepted rules of the period, bringing natural light into the forest ambiences of the Brabant countryside and the Meuse Valley, which he visited during his numerous travels to Anseremme, Waulsort, Dinant and the Lesse.
In a moulded giltwood frame.
